Ms Outlook 2010 No Delay In Outbox

My wife's computer (Win 7 Home Premium) HDD crashed. Got new drive loaded Office 2010 Pro. Set-up Outlook. She gets mail, but... when she hits SEND after composing an e-mail it is sent immediately. I see a brief 1 in the outbox and then it is gone (lasts maybe 1 second). As far as I can find my settings for Outlook are the same as her settings. Mine waits until I press send, hers doesn't. We both have POP3 mail with our provider, and the same setup there. The only difference (apparently) has to be in Outlook itself.

Any ideas on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated

Look in the Outbox if the email has been sent.

What I see on my pc is a number, showing how many e-mails are in the outbox waiting to actually be sent. On my wife's pc I see a BRIEF appearance of a 1, and then it is gone. Elapsed time 1 second or less. EVERY time I tried it the message showed up in my inbox essentially immediately.
From this I figure there HAS to be a setting somewhere that says "hold this e-mail until I hit the Send/Receive All Folders button (or F9). I just can't find where this is set. Also the mail sent from my wife DOES show up in the sent mail folder. It just barely pauses in the Outbox.

I have MSO 2007 Enterprise so the settings might be different.
Open Options > E-mail Options > Advanced E-mail Options and look at Set importance: Low, Normal, High. Is your wife's perhaps set to High?

PS I wouldn't worry too much as long as the message is sent.

I am using MSO 2010 Professional (all of us are), both of my computers hold in the out-box until I manually send. Both my wife and daughter's e-mail zips right through. I have since found out that apparently both my wife's and daughter's computers have always "zipped right through" and they don't mind. So, at this point I guess it is a moot point, but being an Engineer for 30 years I like to know why :) It would seem that there must be a setting somewhere that will do this, but... Oh well. Thanks for trying.

I agree with you. I'm the same.
Unfortunately, MSO Outlook has more settings than features! And some are only available when you have an email account configured.
    I prefer EssentialPIM.

Hmmm, I just looked up EssentialPIM, 1 question, do you have to use the cloud to use EPIM? I spent several years in Military Intelligence, and became very "paranoid", after Apple's Cloud got hacked I am ... leary of using a Cloud system.

    Again I agree.
No, the free version of EssentialPIM doesn't use the Cloud. And you only need to be connected to the internet to send/receive emails.

Thanks for your help, and the info on EPIM! I really appreciate your efforts.

Outlook 2007 in Tools > Options > Mail Setup tab has this option for send immediately. Maybe 2010 has it too?

Earthling, good idea, I did find this, however when I un-checked it it waited about 2 seconds before sending, as opposed to about 1 second before.
I watched the "1" sit by the outbox and my hopes shot up, only to nosedive when it was sent. Oh well.

    Thanks for the suggestion.

I'm not getting the issue. I frequently create draft emails, that I will send when I'm ready especially if I think I am going to amend them.
But if I hit 'send' I want them sent. Who doesn't?

This is precisely what has me baffled, As long as I have been using Outlook (well over a decade) This is how mine has worked... I write the message and when I am ready I hit the Send "button" on the e-mail. It goes to the outbox and will sit there until I hit the Send/Receive All Folders "button" and then it gets sent. It will sit (yes, I have waited this long) up to a week in the Out Box until I send it.
On my Wife's and daughter's machines when they hit Send on the e-mail it goes NOW!.
I have No idea what the difference is. We are all running MS Office 2010 Professional (multi-user package) so it is installed from the same disc!

It goes straight away for me when I hit Send. Could it be that you are using POP and they are using IMAP accounts or vice versa? I don't have a POP account atm I can test this possibility on but I could create one.

    EDIT - sorry, just re-read #1

No problem, Earthling. As I mentioned ab ove I'm an Engineer and I love to know WHY? But at this point ... well IF someone has a good answer great but if not I'll just live with it. I DO apprediate everyone's attempts to help me.

Thank you. "Live Long and Prosper!"
