I'm using Windows XP SP2 and Office 2003. The past few days after I open Outlook, a message (Enter Network Password) keeps popping up asking me to type in my user name and password. The user name and password are correct. I re-enter them anyway, but every couple of minutes it pops up again. I am able to connect to the internet and am able to send e-mails but have difficulty receiving them. I've used the "Detect & Repair" function in Outlook but to no avail.

    Does anyone have any solutions?

    Thanks

Are you on a domain using exchange? Is the mailbox properly associated with your account?

I'm using Road Runner (POP3). I've made sure that that the POP/SMTP entries are correct. None of the settings have been changed or altered in years.

thanks for the links, but the first issues refers to having multiple accounts...I checked and only have one account.
The second one reccommends changing registry entries. I removed the email accounts and deleted the sub-key folder as recommended, and then set up the email accounts again, I get the Enter Network Message a few minutes later and it keeps flashing up every few minutes.

Apparently I'm not the only one with this problem...LOL

normally this indicates that you have input the wrong password, you password has been changed or your account disabled..

You should probably phone your ISP and check with them.

I have triple checked the password ( I have it written down). There is no doubt that the password is correct.

My account isn't disabled as I am able to send e-mails and I do receive e-mails, but intermittently. Every few minutes the message pops up and after I click OK, the details of my "Send / Receive Progress" appears and shows that "1 of 2 tasks have completed successfully". Outgoing mail has been sent, but incoming takes several minutes for it to complete

Not sure if you tried this. But, within outlook 2003, click Tools, Email accounts, Next, change, more settings, outgoing server. Check the box "My outgoing server requires authentication", then make sure the radial button is selected for "Use same settings as my incoming mails server.", ok, next, finish.

If the box was checked, uncheck it.

Also, where you pressed "more settings". Try instead to "test account". Any errors?

Yup...tried all of that and still get the same results.

When I click on "test account settings", it runs 5 tasks. 4 complete instantly. The one that says "log onto incoming mail server (POP3) takes a few minutes but eventually completes the task. Under the "Error" tab, nothing is listed.

About 10 minutes after I do the "test account settings" I'll get a text message from Outlook saying, "This is an e-mail message sent automatically by Microsoft Office Outlook's Account Manager while testing the settings for your POP3 account".

During all of this, I still get the Enter Network Password window popping up.

I changed my password recently and have the same problem. Called my isp twice and went through everything. They finally determined it is a windows registry problem. I called Dell and because the software did not come installed on my computer they want $99 before they will help fix the problem. Does anyone know how to go about fixing this?
