I am having a problem in MS Outlook when I write a new email. If I try to insert a photo, I get a hangup. What happens is this: I select "New" then select an addressee, then write an email, then select insert file for a photo. The box pops up showing my computer file and I click on My Photos and nothing opens. When I click again, the title bar shows Insert File (Not Responding). When I click on the X to shut it down, the End Program box pops on announcing it's not responding. When I click End Now, it all shuts off and the box stating that I've chose to end a nonresponsive program, Microsoft Word pops up. This has never happened before. I did do a spyware search today. Could I have tossed something important? I relaoded my Office 2003 disc and asked for a repair, but still the problem exists. Thank you for your help.

have you tried just drag and dropping the file into the outlook message?

It works when I drag and drop, but not when I pull down the insert and have to go to the file to select.

    Hi,

Do you have any HP software installed on your machine?
Have you been updating your O/S?

I saw the same problem on an Xp Pro pc, running MS Office 2003 yesterday. The user could not attach files to new emails, or open douments from within Word and Excel.

    There are 2 solutions:
    1. To get around the email problem, simply create a new profile in Outlook and import all your mail from the old profile to the new.

    2. The Word/Excel issue is caused by a conflict between a Windows Shell Extension (verclsid.exe) and the Hp Share-to-Web software. See the following for more info: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918165

    Best of luck,

    Jim

MS has also reissued the update. Going to the Windows update site, hitting express, and downloading everything listed will also fix this problem.
