All of a sudden (today) I have the MS Paint header appearing on any existing jpg files that I click on, to open. (see attachment). :cry

The opposite to http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=237819 where MS Paint doesn't appear. :-D

    I don't use MS Paint.
I don't want the MS Paint header appearing.
How did this suddenly occur. I uninstalled my HP printer Software today. I guess that maybe the reason.
Can I delete MS Paint altogether?
Anything serious happen if I delete it?
How do I get rid of MS Paint?

A quick search reveals a couple of instances of mspaint.exe, and a couple more of mspaint.exe.mui on my C; Drive.

I would be quite happy just to lose the MS Paint header appearing and leave the MS Paint program alone.

    Any suggestions?

I just installed IrfanView as per plodr's suggestion in http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=237819 and that works sometimes with a smaller header than MS Paint., and sometimes without a header :cry See attachment

I did, however, download Irfan View from MG at http://majorgeeks.com/IrfanView_d4253.html.

I am trying to get rid of headers altogether, as that used to be the case.
I don't want to edit the image, just view it.
    I'm confused, again. :(

    Hi Bazza.

Can't tell what version of Windows you're using, but with XP, Paint is a Windows accessory.

To "intall" or "uninstall", go to Add or Remove Programs and select Add / Remove Windows Components.

Then click Accesories and Utilities and click the Details button below.

Then select Accessories and click the Details button again.

Add or Remove an item by clicking the checkbox next to the item.

Keep clicking OK until you get to the first Dialog screen,
then just click Next and it will process those settings.

Your references to the MS Paint "header" are a bit amusing. Obviously, your image opened in MS Paint, the PROGRAM. Your aren't just seeing the "header", you're seeing the PROGRAM.

As mjnc said, you can uninstall Paint. However, this issue can also resolve by simply changing the default program for image files. In Windows 7, when you open the Start menu, the right side of that menu panel shows Default Programs, just above Help and Support. Going there and changing the default program is one way to handle this situation. But, again, you can uninstall Paint if you wish.

    It gets worse. :cry

I had installed IrfanView (and run it) to see what happened when I opened a *jpg. That was better than MS Paint but still not what I wanted. I have since deleted that as well.

Now when I try to open a *.gif file, my setup persists in opening Internet Explorer and an error pops up that I need Windows Silverlight installed, which I had deleted, don't want and have never needed neither before just to open a *.gif.

As for jpg's, it appears that it now opens Windows Picture Viewer (which I hadn't noticed before as the program name appears in the blue border at the top of my screen but is hard to read against the blue background) which I'll settle for.

I guess I'll have to alter *gif's to associate with Windows Picture Viewer (not Windows Silverlight) and that should solve my problems. :)

    Thanks for all your suggestions.
