I have two books published by MS Press, each came with a CD test engine, and each is exhibiting the exact same problem. I run W98 on a Compaq Presario. Having installed the test engine, I had a scripting error that was supposed to be fixed with a patch from MS Press support. It didn't fix teh problem and MSPress is not responding. I get a javascript error that says null object, do I want to continue running the scripts? I say yes or no, makes no difference in result. The test page shows up but no questions; The patch was supposed to fix something to do with WinXP hotfix or SP2 problems. I've installed the patch and run the exe file where they said to do it. I've uninstalled and reinstalled to no avail.

Anyone seen this before? I also have IE6 and scripting and debugging are enabled.

just got this email, but now I have another question:

Thank you for contacting Microsoft Learning Support.

I have tested the patch on a Windows 98 machine with the Network + Electronic
Assessment/Readiness Review software installed. The patch successfully
    resolved the issue.

Please make sure that you have followed the instructions correctly:
How to Install the Patch (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;885674)
    After downloading the file,
    1. Double click on patchqs.exe, which is a self-extracting file. You will be
directed to unzip the files to the same root folder where you have installed
the electronic assessment engine. Example of where the assessment files would
    be installed by default:
    C:\Program Files\MCSE Readiness Review\70-228
    C:\Program Files\Faster Smarter Electronic Assessment Engine\Network+Cert
NOTE: if you have multiple assessments (also known as Readiness Reviews)
installed, you will need to run the patchqs.exe file for each title that you
    have an electronic assessment installed.
    2. After unzipping the files to the root folder, run the patchqs.bat file.

You may also want to try to run the software and patch on a different computer
to see if this is a machine specific issue.

    Regards,
    Xin

    your original message. Thank you.

Question: what is the root folder? From their example in teh email, C:\Program Files\Faster Smarter Electronic Assessment Engine\Network+Cert, would it be c:\, or Program files, or Faster Smarter Electronic Assessment Engine, or Network+ Cert?

I've been installing in Network+Cert folder.

Here is the exact text of the error message I get:

    Internet Explorer Script Error
!An error has occurred in the script on this page.
    Line: 15
    Char: 1
    Error: Object required
    Code: 0
    URL: file://C:\Program Files\MCSE Readiness Review\N10-002\Engine\RRev.htm

Do you want to continue running scripts on this page?

I'm pretty sure it's going to take a reformat to clear this up. Oh well, I've been wanting to do it for a while so I could toss Linux on a separate partition, now I have the resources and the reason.
