This just started today, tried to do a reply in Hotmail and got the box asking if this program could make changes etc. and it was for Silverlight.exe (I think that was all) and has buttons to allow or don't allow. It didn't matter, the system locked up and had to go to task manager to get out of it. I even tried to go into Microsoft and check for downloads and it locked down then too. Microsofts support area had several threads on this but never really gave an answer. appreciate help...

What happens if you try uninstalling Silverlight?

I just uninstalled it and Hotmail appears to be working again. Am I going to need Silverlight again at any time?

You don't really need it. It's kind of like Microsoft's version of Flash. If you find you do need it, you can try reinstalling it and see if the problem is still gone. If not, you know you can uninstall again.

I have Silverlight on one computer because Netflix streaming needed it.
I had it on a 2nd but when we dropped the streaming, I removed it from that computer and it hasn't caused any problems nor has any program complained because it said it needed it.
    Both computers run XP Home.
