MS Word and Header Woes

For years, I have been trying to figure out how to work MS Words HEADER option. No matter what I try, I get my header on ALL of the pages in the docement. So I have to print the first page - remove the header - readjust any shifting that happened - and print out the rest. Surely there's an easier way. I've played with the 'from this point on" option and the others as well. What am I doing wrong? All I want is the header on the FIRST page only. I will be so ever grateful if someone can tell me how to do this.

go to page setup and then layout tab and the check the different first page box.. see if that does it for you.

 

That in itself made the header disappear on the first page and appear on every page after that (why does that function even exist! It should be the other way around). So I played around with every other possible combination and the best I got was header on the first page and then every odd numbered page after that. So frustrating!! If anyone knows the right combo - please let me know. And thanks as always, Kodo. Stephanie

 

I have figured it out! It's exactly what you told me to do, but in a very specific order. If you create a document and click View>Header, then you get a header on every page - even if you then go to Layout and click "different first page." You have to start a new document and go to Layout FIRST, click "different first page" and go back to your document. NOW go to View>Header and you'll see "First Page Header" come up in the prompt box...and the rest is history.

I hope this helps people in the future. It really has annoyed me for years.
