MS Word drives me to distraction

I could be a lot ruder, but how do I stop the Left Tab and Hanging Indent from moving.
Better still, can I get rid of the bl**dy things altogether. I want to control my paragraphs and indents and don't want them jumping all over the place, where MS thinks I want them..

Microsoft Office 2000, Word 2000 (9.0.3821 SR-1), on XP Pro and W98SE

 

I think it is caused when you are using the centering a line format and the justify line. Choose format and tabs and set them also check paragraph settings.

Open up your document template default file and change it to the the way you want it and save it. It's a .dot file.

Sorry - in retrospect I was a bit too brief in replying to your problem. Open up Word and then open the file normal.dot. That is the default page that opens when you open Word for a new document. Change the page settings the way you want them and save the file. Thereon you have changed the default that opens.
I don't have the 2000 version anymore(got 2003) but you go to format page paragraph and do the changes you want there if its the same as the 2003 version.

Found the answer after a bit of experimenting.

Click on the furthest left icon on the ruler line ( looks like a capital ” L ”, when you start up Word). Click once and it turns into an upside down capital “ T ”. (Centre Tab, it is called). When it is a “ T ”, everything stays where it is put. Tabs, indents, bullets, everything. Great.
