Ms9158e mother board

Replaced this board a couple of years ago because it was soooo slow.

Put together leftover parts. 1.7 gig pent-4 500 meg ram.

and some drives.

format disk; clean install win xp pro.

appeared to function well

installed Adobe system mech 4 pro, spy bot, AVG.

System is now so slow programs take minutes to open; if at all.

Get window saying virtual memory is too small and windows is correcting; but

never corrects; must reboot.

The first thing I'd do is temporarily disable (or just uninstall) SpyBot. Also, AVG has an option to run a full scan when Windows loads up. On slower PCs with somewhat limited resources, it can really slow things down. Check the AVG settings and disable that option and reboot and see if it helps. You didn't mention which version of AVG you're using, but I recently had to deal with a PC that had AVG 8.0 just installed on it. The PC would boot up to the XP desktop just fine, but once the desktop loaded, that was it. The mouse would move but clicking had no effect on anything, task manager didn't work, nothing. In safe mode the PC was fine. So I turned off AVG in the msconfig startup menu and rebooted back into normal mode. Now the PC worked fine. Needless to say, AVG8.0 was removed and replaced with Avira AntiVir (which IMO is a much better free AV anyway). So, there's a few things to chew on. Let us know how it goes!

Could not run msconfig. pulled drive hooked to my desktop and removed AVG

Computer back up.
