I am trying to run a selective startup in win xp home, but it keeps telling me that I can't do that without running msconfig each time I start my pc, and when I do it always tells me to restart to put my changes into effect. I am caught in a constant loop. how do I fix this?

There is nothing wrong with using msconfig, other than that it moves the startup items to a different regkey, which can cause some issues if you ever uninstall said application, it wont take that entry with it. Thats why you should use the application options instead.

All the mumbo jumbo of it slowing your machine down by using it is a bunch of FUD.

Please post the exact word for word error, or a screenshot, if you prefer?

When it comes up again on the next restart, put a checkmark in the box for "Do not run MSCONFIG on system startup"( or similar wording), then click on "Proceed without restart" (again, or similar wording).
