msconfig & regedit on slaved HD?

Is it possible to run msconfig and/or regedit on a slaved drive? I have a HD with a massively corrupted and/or infected WinXP Home install on it (it won't boot to the desktop), and I'd like to check out the startup, services, and the startup reg entries on it while it's hooked up as drive E: on a healthy PC. Are there any (free ) utils that will let me do this???

msconfig, no.

Regedit, yes. You have to load hive.

Yep, go to regedit.
Open the 'registry' menu (on OS X atm, may be named differently)
Load hive...
point to C:\windows\confg
Choose the correct hive.

Change the drive letter to the correct one.

Oh yeah, how about a temp file cleaner and system restore folder purge for a slaved HD???

 

Well, you could just delete the System Volume Information folder on the drive in question. Its hidden, but thats about as big a purge as you will ever get It rebuilds when it turns on again.

As for temp...not my area of expertise. I've always just done it myself manually
