What can I get rid of and not be hurt when I do the
    Start-Run-msconfig........startup.

I know that there is some crud on there that I really don't need...
and I did try to go through it once but only took off 2 things just in case my whole
world wuz gonna come down all over me ...
and the next thing that came back up was a message telling me
to .....on the Gen. tab to put everything on Normal.
well, I'm not sure that normal is going to do all of the wonderful things that I like
    to have done.
    Please help.....
    thanks

You can "disable all" in run-msconfig selective start-up. Then re-check your Antivirus Program...it is easy to find which one it is if you know the name. Then you will be asked to reboot your PC. When it reboots, check the box that says..."Do not show this message again" & close that window. All your software programs will be available either via desktop icons or through Start, All Programs, etc...Good luck & let us know how it goes. :)Shanrene

I wouldnt untick CPF as that is firewall, plus without knowing exactly what concequences of removing 2 ADSL startups may cause to the connection as some are needed,

CTFMON is one I would definatly remove as majority of users do not use handwriting and speach recognition alternative input methods Office adds by defualt.

But Adele to advise you whats ok to remove and what may not be you'd haev to post a list as Kestrel did above, but the general ones Steve East gave you are ones everyone should remove as they do not add anything.

Hey Kestrel13! I also have a HP and do not have RecGuard. But WinPatrol will tell you what it is. You could uncheck both KAHLMNPR.exe.and Program files. Also both logitech.I have done so and am running in selective since last May with no ill effects. Hope this helps.

    Flashorn.
