Hi. Does any know how I can solve the following problem? I'm trying to access the Microsoft System Configuration Utility. I typed MSCONFIF in the search box, and pressed Enter. Nothing happened. I clicked, "More Search Results," and the following box appeared:

"Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."

I think that the reason may be that my account is not the administrator account; however, it should be, as it's the only user account on this computer. How can I change this?

    Thanks in advance.

Hey buddy, just open the Command Prompt and type in , start msconfig, then hit enter.

Sounds like you still have something wrong with your Win 7 install.
I only have one account on my 64 bit Win 7 Home Premium install and it is an admin account.
I also only have one account on my husband's 32 bit Win 7 Professional and it is an admin account.
I have no problem opening msconfig on either computer.

Have you run sfc /scannow ?

The command prompt is found in Win 7 under Programs/All Programs/Accessories

    Thanks Nick T and Plodr!

I successfully opened MSCONFIG by going to All Programs/Accessories/Command Prompt.
For some reason, it doesn't open by the way Nick T directs.

Plodr, I looked at that sfc/scannow page you showed me. I never heard of it before. I will do this. I will do Option Two: "To Run the SFC /SCANNOW Command in Windows 7".

I'm going to run SFC/SCANNOW from the elevated command prompt. There is this warning sign. I don't know if I have modified by system files. I don't even know what it means. Could someone explain?

    Warning:
Be aware that if you have modified your system files as in theming explorer/system files, running sfc /scannow will revert the system files such as explorer.exe back to it's default state. Make the appropriate backups of your system files that you have modified for theming if you wish to save them before running sfc /scannow.

So if I need to run a UX patcher, I'll do so, but I don't know what UX patcher I have on my computer or how to use it. What UX patcher should I use? and how?

The thread you referred me to on SevenForums implied that rerunning sfc/scannow will fix the problem. Sounds unlikely, but is it true?

    Thanks.

If you haven't added a theme to your PC, you won't need the patcher. Go ahead and run sfc /scannow. The UX patcher is a program that makes it possible to add themes to your PC. You would probably remember adding it if you had it before, as it's not a Windows program from Microsoft...
