There's the little Cleanup button on msconfig... have you tried it yet? Usually it helps to removed those outdate entry.

It is not there in Windows XP Pro. What OS do you have?

    Speaking of MSCONFIG.

Does anyone know if there's an addon for that for WINDOWS 2k PRO?

I know Win2k Pro doesn't have it at all..... that's why I'm wondering if Microsoft ever made an addon (I couldn't find it at their site).

Well, it's not made by MS but it is a proven utility and it's called Startup CPL . I've used it for about a year with Win2k although I don't need it with WinXP Pro. It is compatible with every MS OS though, so feel free to try it out.

Download this and use it - there are plenty of other freebies out there that will also do the job and i don't doubt the veracity of the registry editor recommendation but going there is scary so here is an easier way

    http://www.jv16.org/
Reg Cleaner - A useful registry tool which does more than cleaning. Now superceded by jv16Power toys which does a lot more but should be used with care. The temp file tool is dangerous if not used with great care.

    BanC:

    Actually, it's the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr
    entVersion\Run-
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr
    entVersion\RunServices-
key's you'll need to modify. Notice the minus sign (-) after 'run' and 'runservices'. These are the unchecked items in msconfig. I would say backup the registry keys first if you're not familiar with editing the registry, that way if you delete the wrong thing you can always restore. Good luck.

    Master LL:

You can always just copy msconfig.exe from a 98 or XP pc to your 2kPro, it works just fine, I use it all the time. Good luck.

robo is right the registry can be a scary place.
MS wants it that way, being obtuse enhances their control. The registry is not necessary in its present form. But it is what we have so we have to deal with it.
Search the utils here on the download page for some help in setting up a stable registry.

When I type MSCONFIG in my install of XP Pro it comes up, so they must have put it back in after Win2000 Pro.

Correct. After Win2k Pro they put it back into WinXP and Pro
