msconfig

I have Windows 7 64-bit, I don't know when it actually happened but for some reason when I start MSconfig it takes about 20 seconds before it launches. Everywhere I look all the forums associate MSconfig and slow and tell you how to make your PC run faster using MSconfig, that's not what I am talking about. I click run, type in MSconfig, 20 seconds later MSconfig starts. The PC runs fast, no spyware no viruses no malware, but controls the speed at which MSconfig starts up? And how do I get it back to snap open, like everything else does?

MSconfig has to read lots of configuration information before it can actually display; on my computer it takes about 10-12 seconds for it to completely open.

 

Well, my system configuration hasn't changed much if any at all, I have just the bare minimum startup items. MSconfig used to come right up the longest maybe 2 seconds.

Just a stab in the dark here: How much free space do you have on C?

Larger question: Why are you launching msconfig? It almost sounds like a daily maintenance you're doing or something you're checking for often. Are you using it to manage startup items? If so this is not a good way to accomplish that, see: http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=149804

 

I have roughly 450 gigs of free space. I just opened it to doublecheck something ain't snaked its way into my startup list. But since I've noticed it was real slow, I've been trying to fix it just because it should be faster. I manage my startup items through ccleaner, just like to doublecheck in MSconfig. It's just the principle of the thing, you know when you know something should be working a particular way but it isn't anymore then it gets personal.
