    Hi everyone......

Seeking help. Last week, I had the Internet Explore about:blank browser hijack. Running numerous spyware and antivirus scans has appeared to fix the problem for now, thought I'm not entirely sure its gone.

Bottom line: we avoid using Internet Explorer and stick to Mozilla. Get far fewer popups and messages.

BUT, when a friend was helping me over the phone, they were VERY surprised to hear how long my startup list was when I ran "msconfig". There are currently 17 items listed. Is that normal? Some I recognize while others are unknown.... Specifically, c:\winnt\apifr32.exe is one I am wondering about. Zone Alarm was prompting us frequently about this one...does anyone know if its important?

That is a lot of start-up items. You may need to get a HijackThis log helper to look over it for you.
Regarding that particular file, I would browse through this - http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&q=apifr32.exe&btnG=Search

Be sure and follow the following instructions before you get HickjackThis advice: (Usually your problem will be solved by performing the actions listed here)... http://www.ageekiam.com/showthread.php?t=38752

Oops! Sorry. I didn't know majorgeeks.com had a HJT help center. Use the one here. I had not heard of the other site. I tried to edit my post to remove the link but it wouldn't let me. I need to browse this site!

    Thanks.

Hey libratravel, I forgot to mention Startup Mechanic. It's a handy little tool that tell you what most of your start-up processes are...
