msgina.dll / cswgina.dll logon problem

Hello all. I have a friends IBM Thinkpad laptop here with logon issues. It keeps showing the message " The logon user interface DLL cswGina.Dll failed to load. Contact system admin to replace dll or restore the original" What he did to cause this is install a Cisco Aironet 350 series wireless lan adapter. Everything went fine until it asked if you want to reboot now. Instead of yes he selected no and did some other things like closing out open windows ect. The next time it was booted up it came up with this message. It gives this error in safe mode and last know good config does not work either. He has no disks for this as it was a work computer and they don't support it for some reason and it doesn't have a floppy . I booted up in dos and it shows the msgina.dll file is in system32. I downloaded this file and made a cd and tried to copy to the hdd but i keep getting errors like directory not found or file not found. I tried to use my windows cd to copy the file and even though I can see the file it tells me its not there. I tried winnt form the i386 dir and get access denied( work comp and has sensitive material on it so wipe and reinstall not option) Tried from cd directory and get "no place for swap file"(kinda knew that one would happen though but tried anyway). I have it set to boot from cd but it will not boot from my windows cd it just goes right to the windows loading screen and then get the error message again. I am using Caldera Dr Dos and chkdsk doesn't work. Thank you in advanced for any help.

 

Not to bump just not able to edit. I checked safe mode (which I should have first) It loads to the point that it asked for the password. After entering the password it tells you that the system could not log you on. I have entered the username/password several times and get the same message. I also tried it with blank entries and no luck.
