    Hi all,

    Problem

I am unfortunately unable to play any games on my MSi GE620DX 488NE.

When I try to run a game, I get to the game's title screen and then the screen flashes and closes the game without any error message. On a few occasions I also got Blue Screen of Death (see below for the full description).

I have tried with 'Orcs Must Die', 'Ys: The Oath in Felghana' (which was recently released on Steam) and a few others.

    System Specs

    These are the specs:

    Intel Core i7 2670QM / 2.4 GHz
    8 GB DDR3
    750 GB HDD / 7200 rpm
    NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M & Intel HD Graphics 3000 - 2 GB GDDR3
    Chipset: Mobile Intel HM65 Express

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

    History

Before installing the Steam Client and any of the games, I did a full clean install of Windows 7 Home Premium using this guide: http://forum-en.msi.com/faq/article/reinstalling-windows-when-recovery-fails

I did this to avoid the enormous amount of software that came pre-installed with the MSi's Windows 7 Installation.

After doing the clean install, I proceeded to activate Windows 7 and then I installed the following in the following order:

    1. IntelĀ® Graphics Media Accelerator Driver for Windows 7* 64 version 15.22.54.64.2622 (8.15.10.2622) for IntelĀ® integrated graphics. I downloaded this from Intel's site.

    2. I then installed the latest NVIDIA Driver (version 296.10), which I downloaded from NVIDIA's site.

    3. I installed AVAST for protection.

    4. I installed the Realtek LAN Drivers from MSi's site.

    5. I installed the Intel Wireless LAN Crane Peak Drivers from MSi's site.

    6. I ran Windows Update until Service Pack 1 was installed.

    7. I then installed Steam and downloaded a few games to play, but I was unable to play any of them as they quit on me and occasionally cause BSoDs.

What I have tried so far

    1. I have tried to select the NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M as the globally preferred card. This did not solve anything.

    2. I have tried to select the Intel HD Graphics 3000 as the globally preferred card. This did not solve anything.

    3. I have tried to set each individual game to use the NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M, but this did not solve the problem.

Am I missing something? Do I need to install something else?

I have tried to provide as much information as possible, please let me know if you need more information.

I really hope that someone can help me.

    Thank you all.

Although this may or may not fix things, have you checked MSI's drivers/downloads site to be sure you have the latest BIOS release for your board?

Although it's been a few years, when the first i7 1366 boards came out, manufacturers including ASUS and EVGA were releasing BIOS updates on almost a weekly basis to fix boot and BSOD issues.

    Hope this helps. :)

    UPDATE:

Problem solved! I simply disabled certain parts of Avast.

Glad you got it fixed. I hadn't thought about the anti-virus software causing the problem.
