MSI installer

I have a msi installer which is "only" for windows 2000.
I know it can be installed to WinXP but how I can fool it?

 

Please try this:

1. Right-click the .msi file
2. Select 'Properties'
3. On the File Properties dialog, select the 'Compatibility' tab
4. Under 'Compatibility Mode' check the box next to 'Run This Program In Compatibility Mode For'
5. Select 'Windows 2000' from the drop-down menu
6. Apply your settings

Windows will now execute the file as if the operating system is Windows 2000. Let us know how this goes for you.

Oh! My bad... I couldn't think of any .msi's I had for quick testing, but you're right.

Why can't you run this msi? Are you getting error messages? Have you tried to run it on XP?

Is this the EXACT message? Last time I checked, WinXP was higher than 2000. Either you've got the error message wrong, or the msi is retrieving the wrong OS information!

 

It is almost exact and ther is this: AND HIGHER
but it doesnt recognize XP
BTW, Is there any way to edit msi package?

 

You can use the orca database editor to edit msi files. Please see this link for instructions.

However, if the file is not recognizing your system as 2000 or higher, there may be a bigger problem. Where did this msi come from? Do you have problems with any other msi files, such as that for Windows Defender?
