MsMpEng

I have been having some issues with malware, but they recommended I post in here as well. One service that has been giving me issues is MsMpEng.exe. When it is running, it is eating away at my system resources. Right now I disabled it, but is it necessary to run my Windows Anti-Virus.

Also, is Windows Anti--Virus any better than AVG...I am thinking of switching.

So, I wanted to get a take from the people in here about this.

One more thing, to tell you a little of what happens. When that program runs, and it has happened with a few others (STOPzilla, Malbytes Anti-Malware) my resources spike and my pc freezes temporarily and things stop working. Usually it comes back down and works again, but have had to manually reboot before too.

Thats Windows defender running (MsMpEng) You might just need to adjust some settings in it. I think microsoft security essentials is a great anti protection program. It does eat up some ram,maybe that isnt for you then. AVG does work nice, and doesn't eat that much. They have been around for awhile,and update quite a bit.What are your computer specs? O/S,Ram etc.. When your computer freezes, are running more then one anti virus programs? Meaning are you scanning your computer from x amount of programs?

 

Folllow the steps in this sticky to set up your security. I'd get rid of everything else that you are using, especially since your system seems to be a bit challenged on resources. Pay especial attention to the notes regarding AVG, the actual unofficial MG recommendation on this has changed to AVAST, though I still use AVG installed in the "slim" method. :wave:wave
