MSN... ips.... yuk !

Hi... somebody... I've noticed that when I try a file transfer in windows messenger it sends out the ip of our comp on the lan, not the internet... so basically it doesn't work. I'm guessing it's because it finds the ip for the lan first. Currently I'm working around it by disabling the lan card temporarily while i do a transfer. Though i don't think my sister likes it when she's using the internet through the shared connection... so yeh anyway i don't mind too much using my 'workaround', but if anyone's got a better idea please tell me !

I do not use Windows Messenger, but with other programs I have seen similar problems. We bought a hardware router for $60 an dhave had no more trouble.
Sis might be a bit happier as she will not depend on you for her connection.

 

Does your LAN adapter have a gateway assigned to it? The program should be smart enough to stop looking long before TCP comes into play.

on msn while a file tranfares the other person just has to go to command promt and type netstat -n, then it shows your ip to hide it get a proxy from here www.findproxy.com and go to msn options and then connections select http proxy and put the proxy ip u selected in and the port number then you safe
