Can anyone please help, I am getting error 80072745 when I try and connect to msn live messenger 8.1. I've hunted through google with no luck so though i'd try you folks.
I'm running Win XP Pro on a sony vaio FR315M lappy connected wirelessly through netgear card and router. No security settings have been changed between it working and not, all the things I found on google (adding some dns addresses to a text file, doing a dns flush, uninstalling) didn't work.

Can anyone tell me what the error even means and more importantly how I fix it?

I know its only small problem on the scale of things, but I live 19000km from my family and msn is kinda a life line!

    cheers for your help!

I came up pretty much empty also.
If you need to get in touch with someone through MSN then you can still log on through their web messenger. Works through the browser and no install needed.

    I fixed it! Hurrah!!
Turns out its a port forwarding thing. God knows why it has suddenly decided to be an issue but thats computers for you.
I checked to see if my upnp was enabled on my router, it wasn't because I am using some software that would rather it that way (but its always been that way) so I hit microsoft.com to fid out the ports that messenger uses. Its UDP 138 by the way, forwarded this port to my lappy and hey presto, I'm back online....
Hope this helps someone else with the same problem!

Look out for this error if you use a torrent program, as hammering torrents through your router for a couple of days is often enough to screw the routing table and force you to have to reboot it.
Manually port forwarding the port such as the whackywelshman has will save you having to reboot your router all the time
