My friend has been having horrible difficulties with her MSN messenger. I've been trying to help her but I can't think of what's wrong. Every two minutes while I'm talking to her over MSN messenger, the program just logs her out without her permission. She has to log back in again. We have no idea why and we can't figure it out. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks. :)

    What kind of internet access?
    Using any firewall program?

    Behind a router?

    OS?

It's a dsl access and it is behind a router. There are no extra firewalls except my friend's dad thinks there might be one built into XP. What is meant by OS?

    Operating System.

Does it happen if your friend is not behind the router?

I know its a pain, but its all in the name of troubleshooting.

    It rarely fun or convenient.

This started happening just recently or has been for a long time? MSN has been very dodgey just recently...

The operating system is Windows XP Home.

I asked my friend about the router and she says that she can't get the internet without being behind the router.

This just started recently but she only got the computer for Christmas and it's been doing it ever since she got the internet.

Anyone can get on the net without being behind a router.

It may require some configuration on her PC, but thats it.

Unless its a dsl/router modem combo.

Does it actually log her out, or does the program just completely shut down without prompting or anything?

I think it is a dsl/router modem combo. I'm not sure. She has two computers in seperate rooms in her house and one has a modem and she is using a router to get the internet from that computer. I'm not entirely clear about the concept though.

The program just logs her out, it doesn't shut down completely.

I assume this is MSN Messenger and not Trillian or Miranda or another thrid party tool that connects to various messenger services? Thats the only thing I can find as a potential problem, beyond having more details on the internet connection, which we all may need to help.
