MSN Messenger/Outlook Express Problems

Here's another big one for you guys to help me out with:

I'm using my mom's PC when I'm in the living room. (It's convenient, okay?)
System running is Win98SE.

Now, the problem is that one time Outlook Express crashed, and since then, my mom can't exit out of Outlook Express without consequence. When she closes it out, she can run it again, but her Inbox will not load. She seems to think that MSN Messenger did it, because it has likely been the cause of it crashing several times since then. We can't close MSNIM when Outlook Express is running, because it says that other programs are using its features. Not cool... it says that Outlook is using it's features, and threedegrees, and Outlook, and all these other programs may be using it. This time, I'm not sure what to think.

My main question is, how do I fix the Inbox problem, and how do I set it so that MSNIM can be closed even when OE is running?

So no help on this one? I need tis one badly... this comp has to last a while but it crashes because of MSNIM...
