I just downloaded MSN 7.0 and installed it. When I went to sign on a window popped up, and said:
" C/:program files/msn messenger/msnmsgr.exe A device attached to the system is not functioning."

Then another window popped up and said:
"The usernev.dll file is linked to missing export ntdll.dll.rtllsdosdevicename_u."

I've been trying to figure this out for over 2 hours now and nothing is happening. Any help would be much appreciated!

    Btw I'm running Windows ME

    Thanks!

If you can't get MSN going ------------- OR -------------

You have to download/install another program, QuickTime I think it was, at 12 megs, but that is the only disadvantage I could see. I like Trillian, very customisable (what a word).
Also very easy on CPU resources (around/less than 1%), once it has loaded.

For some odd reason my girls msn kept locking up a few days ago. So I deleted it and tried to reinstall. No freaking way would it let me. Kept saying the d/l was corrupt or something. Any ideas? Thx.

I have tried installing msn from bout 7 different d/l locations. It refuses to install. Error code 1603.

In response to the error code, the following was taken from another forum, and it was for Messenger 6, so I can't vouch for it's effectiveness.

    1) Click Start > Run
    2) Type msiexec /unreg and press enter and wait until it appears to have finished.
    3) Go back to Start > Run
    4) Type msiexec /regserver and press enter.
    5) Try to install MSN Messenger again.

If that fails, the following is from Micro$$oft,

    To resolve the situation:

Turn off any spyware detection programs.

If you have the Microsoft® Windows® AntiSpyware (Beta) installed, right-click the Windows AntiSpyware icon in the taskbar notification area and click "Shutdown Microsoft AntiSpyware". To turn off non-Microsoft anti-spyware programs, refer to instructions provided by the manufacturer.

    Run MSN Messenger Setup again.

If this does not resolve the problem, you may not have enough free disk space. The Disk Cleanup tool calculates how to safely free up disk space on your hard disk.

To make some disk space available:
Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
    Click Performance and Maintenance.
Click Free up space on your hard disk.
The Disk Cleanup dialog box appears.

On the Disk Cleanup tab, select the following check boxes:

    Downloaded Program Files
    Temporary Internet Files
    Temporary Files
    Temporary Offline Files
    Offline Files
Click OK to delete the files from these locations.
When prompted, click Yes start the disk cleanup.
