MSN trouble please help!!!

Hey guys! so one of my mates MSN doesnt want to sign in and weve tried everything we can to get on e.g. reinstall delete then reinstall etc..

Weve tried evrythin we can and it just doesnt want to work all it says is YOU ARE CURRENTLY NOT CONNECTED TO MSN MESSENGER SERVICE

He says that it is something wrong with the default gateway does any1 know how to fix this? im sorry if there is a lack of info here.

do you know if your friend correctly remembers his ID and username?
ummm have you tryed loggin in on different computers?
do you know if he coulda been hacked?

Umm as i said in my last post i wasnt quite sure what the exact problem is due to lack of info about the prolem but i will ask him what you have said and will provide you with more info about it quite soon.

I actually had the same problem onjce but it was my firewall blocking the program even though it showed in the macaffe options that it wasnt so i turned off firewall an it worked but then l8r on it misteriously worked with when i turned the firewall back on, do you think this could be in any relation to problem i had?

okay I figured out that it can't be that he has forgotten his id or password because thats not the message ya get when you screw them up....I could have a different verson of msn....

hmm does he have a firewall 2? theres normally a controll centrey bit where u can pick what you let through. the whole mysterous workin again thing could have somthin to do with your firewall settings perhaps?

does he regualry update with virus and spywear stoppers? I dunno if this would have much effect on it, but he should be doin this...will help alot with speed of his computer and security case someone puts a keylogger on his computer and gets his passwords. mentioning paswords...does he know basic password rules with not given it to anyone???? do you know if he has his passwords up in a file anywhere? cuz someone coulda hacked into these logged in and deleted his account??

yea thats what i did i went to the window were you can block or accept programs put accept then still didnt work but a few days later on that setting worked lol bit wierd

But that was on the DELL family computer which is a little messed up so i got my own comp that aint DELL cos i hate them! no offence to any DELL owners out there

Ok ill tell him to make a new msn account if that don't work ill have to go to his house and see what he has cos i only just met him you see.

Or do you think that it would be worth making a post on the MSN website if they have one? may get different answers there.

Ill tell him to turn off his firewall 2 jsut to see if it is the firewall that is the problem.

umm ninemsn is the main webpage for msn...but I don't think they would have a bit to post problems in you'd have to find there email adress and send 'em a email...but you could be talkin to robots on this one....I don't know. there'd be a help section.

my moniters a samsung, no idea what brand the actually tower is though...I have windows ME 98 on it not somthin I'm proud of........

 

find out what OS
what version of msn msngr
and what error code, if there is one
is he using a proxy?
a router?

There are 2 registry commands that you can run from the command line. It takes 3 minutes. Pls advise you OS and if you already did an uninstall/reinstall.

 

reboot system, open run and type... REGSVR32 MSXML3 click ok, and then reboot os again, Upon second reboot type... REGSVR32 SOFTPUB.DLL click ok and then reboot again. You shoul get suceeded messages after each step. That should get your buttefly back in action!

Did that get your butterfly flying again? Both commands are pretty helpful when the butterfly is dead after a reinstall. The sofpub.dll basically re-aligns your dll.. files... sort of like the dewey decimal system in the library. The other command re-aligns MSN scripting commands.

If those commands did not work, let me know. I'm a DSL Tech Support Agent and MSN is part of our support.

Hey guys sorry for not replying for a while

Well my mate fixed his problem he just uninstalled it and then reinstalled it from another site and it now works!

I wudnt know why downloading it again from another site might help but it now works lol
