    Good afternoon Geeks,
I am running XP Home SP3, and I have 14 copies of the msvcr80.dll on my system?

The issue started with Nero Vision (9) suddenly failing to open giving me a Runtime error. Communication with NeroAG and running an event log for them, they said that the msvcr80.dll was at fault and suggested I remove it from the C:/Windows folder. Removing the driver from the Windows folder as Nero suggests will allow Nero Vision to open ONCE, the next try generates the same runtime error.

Review online indicates that this is not a critical file, yet it appears that many apps require it and have been installing their own version (maybe the same version as 13 of these are the same size). I am guessing that with 14 of them, this is why I am having an issue.

Please review the attachment that shows what I get when I do a search for msvcr80.dll on the C drive, and tell me what you think I should do, what can be deleted.

I think this issue began a week or so ago, right after I did an upgrade to the HP Solution Center software for the HP6500 printer, and look at all the HP stuff here.

As I recall my driver experience, running an app for duplicate drivers, it is normal to find one copy in the apps folder and a second in the C:/Windows/system folder. I've always understood that only one of these is needed however and to leave the copy in the system folder.

    Hi

That dll is added in general by the applications that need to call on it, its not a default windows file. But deleting some from those locations may cause the applications that need them to fail.

I would uninstall Nero then use CCLeaner to cleanup up your PC and also use the registry cleaner until nothing is listed, then re-install Nero and make sure its upto date.

I've already gone through the Nero UI process twice, even deleting registry entries, but the component I need still fails after 0-1 try.
I will run an experiment over the holidays...
    1) identify the latest of the 10 versions, make a copy
    2) make a desktop folder for each application and pull the driver out of the program file
    3) place a copy of the latest version in the C:/Windows folder (that is where Nero says the issue occurs)
    4) restart to unload all drivers except the one
    5) test each program indivudually to confirm that it still works
    6) test multiple programs simultaneously since there will be only one driver loaded
    7) if all goes well, then test Nero
I will also delete the redundant copies of .cab files that HP installed (and if in the HP 6500 Printer folder there is the same driver, temp remove it.
I will let you know what happens.
