    Go here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...2b-b4f2-46da-b4b6-c5d7485f2b42&displaylang=en
and click on the release notes. I'm guessing that an older version is still on your computer.

    Hi all.

I had this problem and had a LOT of issues trying to sort it out. So much so that I've decided to register here and post my experience hoping it helps someone else out someday, since nothing I could find on the web helped much.

First off, the OS was Windows XP SP2. Game was Microsoft Flight Simulator X Deluxe. A lot of commenters on the web suggested that people not upgrading to SP2 is the problem. My XP was upgraded to SP2 already. It is notable however that I don't run automated updates.

I spent some hours trying to get this to work. Tried un-installing Flight Simulator, and MSXML 4.0 SP2, then as per the MS website, did a "clean" boot and re-installed. This didn't fix the issue. I tried downloading MSXML 4.0 SP2 from the MS website, and running repair. Nothing. Un-install and re-install, nothing. (All from clean boot). Then I tried un-installing msxml4 once again and re-installing from the installer on Disc2. Also didn't work. (I mean really, atleast MS should've checked that the ver on the DVD actually works)

As some people have stated in my googling, when you run repair using the msxml installer it just seems to go through instantly without doing anything. This concerned me. Was anything really happening?

I was reasoning that since MSXML 4.0 SP2 is installed on my system, and since FSX said it couldn't find it after all this trouble, it must mean FSX is looking for a specific version I haven't tried yet....

Then I went to the MS website, and started trawling for and installing security updates for msxml 4.0. Not in any specific order, just randomly getting whatever I could find and installing it. After one of the larger updates (5MB), the game finally worked.

That specific update, right as it was installing I immediately thought.... hey, this is gonna work, because for the first time there was some disk activity and the installer didn't just blow right through in no-time.

What is that hallowed update? I didn't pay enough attention, sorry, I'd been trying too many things with no luck to keep track. I'm pretty sure it was:

I could be wrong. I'll check tonight at home if I can verify and post the result.

    Thanks.

Look through your updates in add/remove programs and sort them by install date.

The link your provided is bad.
