hey :D i really need ur help, i couldn't send u a private message so this will have to do. i even requested to be ur friend

i noticed you helped the other person with her problem really well and solved it for her ( you know the one with the intel and sound problems? same title hint hint) : p
well i have the same problem but a different computer
everytime i try to go to device manager and update the audio devices,
the second it gets halfway into installing, my computer restarts..
now recently i had a virus problem but thank goodness my brother cleaned out my desktop but it left me musicless.
i did everything you told that other person to do
i downloaded the right chipset driver, i think, matching my via k8t800 chipset.
i downloaded that tugzip35 and i followed that girl's WHOLE step by step instructions at the very end of this forum thingy or whatever they call it http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=161428
but the main flaw was where she referred to go to the "number 5" here
http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=161055 where im supposed to download that link from ur post number 5. it seems to be a flaw for me because isn't it just for intel? while i have my microsoft xp, asustek computer.?? (im sorry if i totally killed how to name my own computer..)

so i couldn't go through all the way to getting my sound device fixed :(
    PLEASE HELP ME
ive been at this for 2 days and nights including this very school day.. i skipped school just to fix my computer and i was so close !!
if you or anybody is willing to help, PLEASE DO : )

    Hi

Sadly you cannot follow that thread as the drivers listed are while for a sound issue, are for a different chipset and likely audio driver, so the below info shoudl help us to find out what PC make model or what Motherboard you have as the drivers in many cases need to be the right ones as there are many with same name but not same version or in the case of OEM makers, many are custom designed.

If your PC is one from the likes of DELL, HP, Sony,ASUS etc what is the Make and model varient as this will assist us if we need drivers?

If your PC is a home or custom build what is the motherboard make and version?

To find this info you can use the likes of Everest to find this info, at times a summary log of your PC can help, to do this

    Install Everest and run
Click Report (top menu) > Report Wizard > Next
    Choose All Pages > Next
Choose Plain Text > Finish and wait for report to generate
Click Save to File and leave the File Name as Report, then click the Save as Type dropdown and choose Report files (*txt) and click Save (n.b. Save to desktop is best as easy place to find it, use Browse to locate desktop)

Then attach your log to your next post as per these instructions HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post

    thank u for replying :D
i already downloaded some cpuz thing that allowed me to see what kind of computer i have.
i saved it on paint but it wont allow me to attach and upload anything over 97.7KB or whatever so i'll just copy the whole thing...

This is what i found from the 'mainboard' tab of my cpu thingy i downloaded.

    Motherboard

    Manufacturer: ASUSTeK Computer Inc.

    Model: K8BSEDX Rev 2.00

    Chipset: VIA K8T800 (VT8383) Rev.: 01

    Southbridge: VIA VT8237

    LPCIO: Winbond W83697HF

    BIOS

    Brand
    : American Megatrends Inc.

    Version: 1004.006

    Date: 08/03/2004

    Graphic Interface

    Verision: AGP version 3.0

    Transfer Rate
    : 8x Max. Supported: 8x

    Side Band
    : enabled

There were other tabs like : 'CPU', 'Cache', 'Memory', 'SPD', and 'About' if you need the info from the other tabs to help me, i can copy them down for you.

and those things i downloaded before, i didn't download the same one dan perry advised for that other person to download, but i found other things that i thought was appropriate for my computer.. did i do good or no ???

and idk what home or custom build means haha..... but a korean dude built it i think.......... i'm not sure.. is it important to find out?

do you still recommend that i download that everest thing? or is it not necessary ?

    Hi

Yes please do install Everest and attach the log as per instructions as that ASUS motherboard is not listed at ASUS, similar model codes, so need to review the Everest log to get some info on the board used.

    Hi

Glad you did as you had typed the Motherboard model code wrong earlier or that application you used listed it wrongly as its a K8V and not a K8B, subtle differences but can lead to going around in circles with wrong driver.

You'll have to goto this page and enter in the boxes this info for all the drivers for your PC as ASUS sadly dont give you direct link to the full page

    Motherboard
    Socket754
    K8V SE Deluxe

    Click Search and select XP

Then install the Chipset (under utilities as VIA 4 in 1 driver Package Service v4.49 ) and reboot then the Audio driver (SoundMAX Audio Driver version 5.12.01.3663 WHQL driver for Windows 98SE,ME,2000,XP )

after downloading VIA 4 in 1 driver Package Service v4.49, do you mean to restart computer and then download the SoundMAX Audio Driver?? or reboot and go into safe mode?

    Hi

You need to download both, then install the Via 4in1 driver then reboot, then install the Audio driver and reboot and check you now have sound.

hey i downloaded both then i installed the Via 4in1 driver thing then i rebooted. but when i tried to install the audio driver this thing popped up that said :

The audio driver files do not support your computer hardware.
Note: If you uninstalled software without restarting your PC, restart now, then run this setup again.

and my sound still does not work :[
