Multimedia audio controller HELL

i reinstalled windows xp and my sound driver has been
seriously messed from the get-go

First- There was no multimedia audio controller (or any
other drivers) althogh understandable because of the
reinstall right.

Second- I downloaded every driver i can think of form the
DELL website for my specific model (Still no Multi.M Audio
controller)

Third- I downloaded realtek ac 97 (bad idea) thinking that
was the driver ( i forget why i thought that was the driver
but i think som googling sent me there) while i tried the
realtek setup wizard the computer crashed into the
BLUESCREEN with:
0x0000007e,oxc0000005,xa80a446d Portcls.sys

Now- I have this dang realtek that i cant remove from my
machine, it asks me to install it @ every startup.
I cant find the proper driver and if i update my driver
from manager it just tries to install realtek 97 again
since its in my machine and i cant get rid of it.

Oh and i also have no audio mixer and i have tried to
manually extract it from the install cd, again to no avail
even though it says that i extracted it

I would boot into safe mode and remove the driver. You can do this by taping F8 when your pc is booting to get into the advanced boot options.

Select the option that says "Safe Mode"

Remove all the audio drivers you have installed so far.

Then I would install everest and do a report and post here.
