Multimonitors and full screen video

I'm running WindowsXP and a Radeon 7500. I have the second monitor plugged into the DVI port. Whenever I tell a video to go full screen, it comes up on the primary monitor. Is there any way of setting which monitor the video appears on?

I can set the second monitor to be the primary display, but that means all my 3D games appear on the second monitor as well.

What are you using to play the video?

I suppose it depends on the drivers. On my dualie system (dual cards - GF3 Ti200 & GF2MX 200) if I play a video in Media Player or PowerDVD it plays in whichever monitor the window is in. If I set it for full screen it goes full screen only in that monitor.

You could always disable the second monitor (which you should do for games as well as DirectX has issues with dual monitors). A handy way of doing that is to install UltraMon (it's availble in the files section here at Geeks).

Among it's many other splendid features, it allows you to disable the secondary by just double clicking on a taskbar icon.

Same as you, I use WMP and PowerDVD. I'm using the latest ATI drivers. It may be to do with the fact both monitors are running from the same card. I used to have a GF2 and an old OAK PCI card.

Thanks for the suggestion of UltraMon, that's something I've been looking for! A quick way of disabling the second monitor.

Thanks for the help but still can't get full screen video on the secondary.

has anyone figured out how to fix this? I am running a computer in my car with ultramon, and I use it to move video to the other monitors as well, so that workaround doesn't work for me.

If you pull the window over to the secondary monitor, and open it up to full-screen, will that work?

no it won't. anytime I try to change to fullscreen mode it opens on my primary monitor, but only with certain filetypes. most AVI's and MPG's will open up on the secondary monitor fine.

are there any other programs that work like ultramon?

What graphics cards are you using?

I'm now running three monitors, the main monitor and projector off a Radeon 9800 and the secondary monitor off a PCI Rage card. If you are running two different cards, it sometimes makes a difference which card starts first in the BIOS, PCI or AGP. I need to start the PCI card first or Windows won't use it.

At the moment, I can run video full screen on any monitor using WMP or PowerDVD.

Nvidia GeForce FX5200 AGP as primary and boot monitor and an Nvidia MX400 PCI as secondary with windows extended onto it.
