What are the benefits of having multiple Optical drives?

I installed a Memorex DVD read write drive. Do I need to keep the Memorex CD burner drive in the PC?

How would I know which one to use besides a DVD has to go in the DVD drive?

Most likely, your DVD drive also supports burning to CD's. If fact, I believe all DVD-R/RW drives also read and burn CDs. So, you could remove the Memorex CD burner drive.

    Greetings, goodtexan...

Good question: most DVD writers will also write to CD, so there's no real practical purpose for having two drives, unless your burning software allows for 'on-the-fly' recording (burning directly from one media to another)...

Sorry, 'Vet - didn't see you in time ;)

    Thanks for the replies.

the reason I ask is that I see system specs on here and for sytems on sale that boast multiple optical drives.

I guess you could play a music CD while running a program that requires the disc in there.

I suppose it wouldn't hurt to keep it. It takes up a bay that would be empty anyway.

Yes, no harm in leaving it in there. I have two optical drives in my two desktop computers due to the older drives being only for CD. When I added a DVD drives, I just left the CD drives in. You can use the CD drives when working with CDs and save a little wear on the DVD drives.
