    Hello again,

I have a TWEAK question for the Forum.

I have several Tweak software packages installed on my Windows XP Pro machine, including TweakUI, X-Setup, etc. There are other programs such as Cacheman that also have tweak settings. I understand that settings form these programs affect the Registry.

What happens if there are multiple instances of the same settings applied from various software packages?

    1. Is it harmful to the operation?

    2. What happens if I UNinstall, say, X-Setup with its multitude of settings. Does an UNinstall cause the settings to remain or be deleted.

    3. What happens if two tweak softwares have a setting that is alike, but one tweak software is UNinstalled. Does the tweak/setting disappear for both programs?

I've been wanting to ask this question for a long time, but did not know if I could explain it properly. Please let me know if additional details are necessary for this discussion. :)

    Couldnt agree more with Xflat
The trouble with multiple tweaking is once you have a problem is finding out exactly what tweak caused it
What i will add is that when you are talking about reg tweaks even if different apps rewrite registry values its only the latest one applied that will be active
More conflicts will appear when running realtime tweaking apps at the same time like memory managers etc

I have found conflicts when using these proggies.

What I do now is find out what each of these programs tweaks do and apply them myself.
Not only does it avoid conflicts but it lets me learn that much more about what I'm doing to my PC.
That's not to ay that I don't appreciate proggies like X-Setup -I do ...I just like to know what it is they are doing/how they are doing it/why it is benificial.

All very solid anwers. I have a fair2good knowledge of what a lot of tweaks do, but your responses filled the void. fiver22's response summs it up nicely ;)

    Thanks!

Plus, while a lot of the tweak programs do give you more things to tweak than Windows has built in, a lot of them simply duplicate functions already built into Windows. Maybe with a slicker user interface, but no new functions. If I can do it in Windows, I'd rather not add another application (with another chance of conflicts, and more clutter) to do the same things.
