I have had to start listening to my music from our external drive on the HP mini laptop (windows 7) since the motherboard went out on other computer. Was fine yesterday but today, music is 'sticking' for a millisecond during one point in the songs. Should I be concerned about this? I just can't see my files have suddenly degraded. I am playing it on WMP.
Sorry if this should have been in hardware, but I think it goes either way possibly.
    Thanks.

Check your drive for errors. And see if there are any type of bad sectors that need repairing.

    Chkdsk

MIGHT be a hard drive error. MIGHT be transfer rate problem too. You said you done this before too? What kind of connection does it use? Mini-USB? Also, try running it from VLC; see if you still get the same errors. (Might be a codec problem)

I have no real expertise in the area, but any one of these options should solve your issue.

    Hi

Is your Windows 7 at SP1?

Is it also fully up to date with updates and hotfixes?

Is this still happening with your music today? as the possible is a buffering or I/O stutter as at times either USB is not quick enough to transfer data or your have a security application scanning the USB drive, so you could try a few things in:

    1. Disable your security software to test its not impeading the data transfer.
    2. Try other music software and the latest one from Microsoft and is very good is Zune, just add your music to the library from the external drive and test.

Definitely check the scanning functions of any security programs you have on your computer! I hadn't thought of that but it seems to be a very possible solution too. Kudos David. (Personally I use VLC for everything. It's Codec library is so extensive... I can play any file format and it plays them all so seemlessly; but that's just my opinion)

First Chkdsk as Goldenskull offered, then try to see its not a cable problem

I am thinking that its the WMP it self I don't like version 11/12 be cause there are some bugs in them.If i could i would switch out 11 and 12 version for 10 is the best version of the wmp.

I am thinking you should try another player.Too see if it skips in there.

    Try WinAmp there pretty good.

Oh and if you want too watch videos with the Full Codecs here is this has them all.Just make sure you uninstall any other codecs first.
