mute button problem on hp laptop

The mute button on my hp laptop is lit continuously - no sound. When I hit the button "Welcome to Quick Launch Buttons" dialog box opens. Can't find a way to return the functioning of this button to "mute" as designed. Help?

 

Maybe check with HP to see if it's a known issue with your particular model. Perhaps installing the hotkeys software/driver will help. If you could provide the model number, maybe we can help a bit more. The model number from the bottom of the laptop is more accurate; the one on top above the keyboard is probably like 'pavilion zv3000' but on the bottom it would be something like 'pavilion zv3027us'.....
