Bought a Logitech MX1000 laser mouse and it feels nice :)
The damn cursor jumps around the screen sometimes. I lowered the mouse speed a little. I tried different mouse mats. I made sure it was fully charged. It's got the latest drivers.

    Save my sanity - please!!!

    I wonder...

Logitech is pretty admanant about keeping the receiver away from other elctonic devices.

Have you tried moving it somewhere else?

Thanks - I'll give it a go, the only thing it's near is my PC though!

Hmmm, nope - it's 4 foot away from the PC and 1 foot away from the mouse

Does it jump on its own, or while you are using it?

Does it happen in Safe Mode? :D

    Only when I'm using it.
I'll give Safe Mode a go...

Yup, still jumps about in Safe Mode.
I've even turned off Bluetooth mode on my phone just in case!

    Infuriating

Maybe the mouse is a fluke...

    Can you swap it out?

I was using a different Logitech mouse (Cordless optical) and never had these problems. Unfortunately I gave it to my mate so I can't retry it.

No I mean, swap it out at the store for a new one.

Did you try the reset button on the bottom of the mouse and on the base. If that don't help I would return it for a replacement. I use the mx700 and 1000 both and and both are excelent rats. Regular type mouse pads are no good with these rats. The best pad I have found is a ratpadz.

Good price but can be found even cheaper.
I use windex to keep the pad and the rats little feet clean and with the slightest touch of my finger the mouse will glide halfway across the pad.

    I never used PS/2...

PS/2 would slow down the mouse, IMO.

are there different channels you can try, like on the mx700?

I had the same problem with the same mouse. I have another wireless mouse just a few feet away as well as many other electronic items closer than recommended... however, the problem turned out to be simply that the line from mouse to transmitter-thingy just wasn't clear enough. I didnt even consider that to be a problem unless there was something directly blocking the view at all times. I believe elevation was the problem as there was about 3 feet between the two.

Moved the transmitter down to the same plane (on the desk) and fixed the problem completely.

The problem with mine wasn't just "jerkiness," but most often the cursor would randomly and frequently blink to the top-left corner of the desktop.

::edit - just an interesting note... I had the MX700 set up the same way pror to getting the 1000 and never had a problem with the 700::

I concur ... i've heard of people overclocking their USB bus to get the full advantage of the precision the 1000 gives
