My AIM Hacked?!?!?!?

Alright here's the deal, I'm sure if this is in the right thread, but what the hell?!?!

My sister broke up with this kid awhile back and she recently started going out with one of his friends, but they arent really friends anymore. Well my sister remembers that her x-bfs friend had a program to get AIM passwords, now all of a sudden someone keeps signing onto her screenname.

Now I talked to her x-bf and all he says is "I dont know anything"

What can I do about this?
Is there anything that I can do to find out who is doing this to her screenname?

Change your password.

 

she has 3 times, so she created a new name and deleted her buddy list, but they still just keep signing on.


I talked to my bud that is amazing with computers and he said the program this kid has must happen to be the one that when you change your password and sign on, it still sends him the new password.

I know that because she has a new anme this isnt really much of a threat, just dont want this kid to get my password, my moms, brothers and my sisters new one. It's really starting to piss me off and would love to do something to royally mess up his computer forever, and I'm like 95% sure it's him!!!!!

 

He must have something on her system to send him the password. Have her go to the spyware forum and have someone take a look.

 

He may have her email password as well.

 

If her x-bf is good with computers there may be a trojan on the computer or spyware. Run your antivirus program and see what comes up

 

I would recommend a good firewall as well... If some program is transmitting this information from your sister's computer to his, it's obviously accessing the internet... i recomemd Sygate Personal Firewall which you can find here at Majorgeeks:

I have 2 firewalls .... Bullguard and one in my wireless router!!!!!

I've run spyware programs and nothing.
I dont think he really has a trojan on my computer, but just that program that gets AIM Passwords.

He isnt even that good with computers, but we are guessing it is him because she will block his name and delete it off her buddy list (even now with no names on it) and than she'll sign on and only he will be unblocked and his name will be on her buddy list.

My friend said the program can get the AIM passwords even with a firewall, but I think that is all he is interested in. I have no clue why, but I'll find out.

Get rid of Bullguard. It's no good. I use ZoneAlarm, but Sygate, Kerio and Tiny Personal Firewall are excellent also. Get them here: http://www.majorgeeks.com/downloads34.html
No mattter what your friend says, if you have a good firewall and it's set up right, it won't let anything you don't OK have access. BTW, he's a stalker. Call the police before it gets worse.

JUST PLAYIN - Which should I download? and how do I make sure it is set up correctly. BTW, we know the LT. at the police department and my mother called and they are going to call this kid tomorrow and say they are investigating the situation.

Are all the downloads here at majorgeeks.com free fullv versions of the antiviruses and firewalls? Which are the best? How do I know they are protecting my computer correctly?!?!?!

With Windows XP we have 4 seperate accounts set up. Does the firewalls and antiviruses protect the entire computer? or just the account it's in?

Did this kid have access to your computer at any time?

He might have installed a keylogger.

some keyloggers are able to send the information via email to whatever email the installer chooses.

if you read carefully this programs are very hard to detect becuase only the user and installer knows the passwords to bring it out of hiding.

 

The ones I listed are all very good. The free ones are very basic and will keep people out of your computer without your permission but the pay versions are cheap and do a lot more.

P.S.: Have your friend get a restraining order. The police can't do much otherwise. Don't let your friend back down now. I've been through it myself.

 

it's not my firend it's my sister that this is happening too. We notified the police and they are going to give hima call saying that there has been a copmplaint against him and that if during their investigation they find out it is him, he will be prosecuted!!!

ENDI - I really dont think he is that smart to install the keylogger on my computer. I think his is really all of his friedns doing!!!! He never really sent my sister any emails and they stopped going out almost a year ago, its a little odd that he would do this 1 year ago and start using it now.

 

Good call Endi (as usual). There's no freeware keylogger remover on MG that I can find. Maybe someone knows of one?

I really dont think he wouldve been smart enough to put a keylogger onto my computer. He barely knows anything about computer and he wouldve had to do this almost a year ago, when he was going out with my sister. And why put it on our computer? Just in case?

Contact your ISP and tell them your problem. They will be able to trace anyone getting access to your computer or e-mail. Create a new e-mail account, as that will prevent a keylogger from sending your password out that way.
