My antivirus and zonealarm won't load at startup

My scandisk found some bad sectors in the C drive and now my AVG and zonalarm won't load at startup. I can start the zonealarm manually and the AVG will still scan, but will not run in the system tray. The only thing I have downloaded lately is MSN Messenger beta....about a week ago. I also cannot sign in to that, although it was running fine until about 3 days ago.
I don't think spyware is a problem, I have spyware blaster, adaware se, cccleaner, spybot search and destroy, HD cleaner.

I am running windows 98SE

Compaq Deskpro EP/SB series
32 mb primary memory cache
512 mb secondary memory cache
13.22 GB useable HD capacity
9.60 GB HD available free space
128 mb ram

FIRST...
Check to see if this box is "checked" in ZoneAlarm...under "General" -- "Load Zone Alarm at Start Up". For some reason I have to go back in and double check programs and other selections sometimes, maybe this has been changed. (see screen shot)

If that's NOT the problem...try uninstalling and then reinstalling one of those programs to see if it fixes the problem and if it does, uninstall and reinstall the other one too. Since you know they "run" and "scan"...this will get them back in the system tray properly and will run at startup...
