    Hi,
I am new to this site so I hope someone can help me. I am not an expert on computers but I am learning fast!
The control panel tells me I have a samsung CD-R/RW SW 252S drive under hardward and it has a yellow explanation mark next to it. I have used drive dectective to try and fix and it come up with the message: Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardward device. Code 41

Can anyone suggest what I do now? I am not an expert in computers but I am a fast learner and keen to fix things myself.

Have a look here a few comments down where they tell you what keys to delete from the registry:
    Code:

It would be a good idea to backup that section of the registry before you start incase you goof up. To do that just go Up the file tree a little ways above the two entries you want to delete and then right click it and select export and pick a convienient place to put the export file. Then if you want to reverse what you did double click the .reg entry it creates to put things back the way they were.

There was also a mention of going thru the new hardware wizard although you could probably uninstall the drive from Device Manager and restart the PC to do the same thing.

Does the drive appear in the BIOS summary screen on boot-up? If so, use the Device Manager to uninstall the drivers, and see if Windows tries to re-install those drivers on the next startup.

If the drive does not appear in the BIOS summary, or if Windows doesn't see the drive and try to re-install the drivers for you, you may have a drive that's gone sour. Optical drives do that, and are inexpensive enough that sometimes the easiest way to test the theory that the drive has failed is to replace it.
