    Hello:

I have just read through the "Here are the similar threads we found:" about my issue, but none of them solved my problem.

I have windows xp and am trying to run the chkdsk program on my pc. (I haven't run this in months.)

In the commant prompt feature (window) I typed in "chkdsk /r" and hit enter. I got the following message in the command window:

I typed "Y", then clicked "enter".

    I reboot.

My computer starts to load fine and then I go to this blue page where it looks like it attempted to chkdsk, but says it can't do it. (I don't remember the exact wording because within a few seconds, that page is gone and my computer continues to boot up).

I can remember doing this command about a year ago and getting that same blue page which places these little periods across your page, and then starts another line, and then another line, until eventually the chkdsk is complete. However, I just can't figure out why I am unable to do this.

Anyone know of a possible fix to get my chkdsk to work?

    Thank you.

The command prompt feature went a little further this time. See copy and paste of that window below:

    Any suggestions?

    Hi

What security software do you have installed as some are known to cause problems when running chkdsk, what you could try is to boot into Safe Mode (F8 at boot) and run chkdsk /r from there, if that doesnt work then in normal mode click start > run and type msconfig and then click Boot tab and then choose Under Boot Options select: /SAFEBOOT and close msconfig, then start the chkdsk /r and when it tells you to reboot, then do so and hopefully the scheduled chkdsk will run in safe mode.

To cancel Safe Mode booting just enter msconfig again and this time uncheck /SAFEBOOT then click the General tab Select: Normal Startup - load all device drivers and services and click Apply.

    Hello Halo:

I have "Spyware Doctor", "ZoneAlarm Pro" and "AVG Anti Virus Free" on my pc.

I got into safe mode and opted for command prompt setting(?) I then got a black screen with a lot of data on each line which looked like file names and then it stopped. While there was no movement on my screen, my harddrive was busy working for about 10 minutes. I had to leave to go back to work and I just came home to see that my pc was booted up with my desktop there etc. I then tried the "error-checking" from the tools in "my computer" and it asked if I wanted to do this on re-boot, I clicked "Y" and rebooted. I got to the blue screen on reboot where it looked like it was attempted to chkdsk, but it was quickly halted by something similar to the wording "cannot get direct access"... that quickly vanished and windows proceeded to load.

I'm off to try this part of your post:
