My computer is acting up, random blue screens and shutdowns.

For about a week or two now my computer has been getting random blue screens and shutdowns. I was getting about one blue screen a day for a few days, happening only when I was playing my online games. Then they stopped for a few days, and since then my computer has randomly turned itself off twice. At this rate, my computer will probably eventually become unusable, so any assistance would be nice.

I have a suspicion it could be video related, considering you are gaming.

Could you post your system specs?

Not sure how specific you're wanting, so I'll just give the things I know offhand:

    Graphics Card: Radeon HD 5770
    Motherboard: ASUS P8 p67 LE
    Power Supply: Raidmax RX630SS
    Processor: Intel I5-2500k
    Ram: 2x2gb Corsair Vengeance

    What OS/version are you running?

You will need to turn off the automatic restart, and obtain the blue screen error code, if you haven't already...

I'm using Windows 7 Pro. How do I do the other things you said?

The shut offs indicate a heat problem. The fact that you do get some blue screens means it is already set not to reboot on errors.

Tackle the heat problem first. Too much heat will eventually cook the insides and kill your hardware.

Is the fan running? Is dirt/dust blocking the vents? Is the box too close to a wall or furniture to slow down good airflow? Take the case off, are the components covered in dust?

I'm not an avid gamer, but you don't get heat errors from BIOS anymore these days. Well, at least I haven't had one tell me about a temp shutdown lately.

I agree with the previous posters. Are there any physical errors (lint/pet hair) that would cause your system to shut down?

What is the device driver version & date of your Radeon card? (See this info I wrote on another forum.)

P.S. what is the error code on the BSOD panel?

Sorry for the silence the last few days, I've been distracted by Guild Wars 2. I cleaned the inside of my pc, and like you all inferred, it was a dust trap. Since I cleaned it my computer has been running perfectly, so I believe my problems are probably done. It has been a couple days. If it starts acting up again, I will repost in this thread once more. Thank you all for your help and support. <3

Good. Keep it cleaned and well ventilated... :)
