I have a compaq pressario computer that I just had given to me but I have noticed that it doesn't show up the color red. I've tried adjusting the monitor but somebody told me something about a video card? What is that exactly & what is it going to take to get the red back on my computer?

Hi Sarah. Before we can be specific, we need the exact model number of your computer.

A graphics card is an add-in card (circuit board) dedicated to graphics processing that sends the video signal to your monitor. Many computers do not have an actual card, but have the graphics processing hardware integrated on the motherboard. This is called "on-board" graphics.

The first thing you need to do is make sure the cables are security fastened to the computer, and to the back of the monitor. If fine, then you need to try another monitor on your computer. If it is missing red too, then the card (or motherboard if on-board) is causing the problem. If the new monitor display is fine, then obviously the old monitor is bad.
