    I have Windows XP. These are my problems:

    Constant "runtime error 229@00004C54. Shortcut to 124474" messages.
    Shortcuts everywhere for "hardcore teen sex"
    My favourites get adult sites added to it
    My home page resets to a search page
    whenever i delete the shortcuts and 124474, it comes back.
    warnings come saying certain files are corrupted

    Also, I had difficulty going into safe mode (maybe unrelated). When I get to the screen to decide between Safe Mode and Safe Mode with Networking or Run Windows, my arrow keys dont work. so i always end up picking to just run windows because it is selected and the timer runs out.

    Well, I am thoroughly concerned, especially because ad-aware, CCleaner, SpywareBlaster and Spybot Search&Destroy have no effect on the problems.

    In a situation that reminds me of that classic song "the cat came back," I was hoping someone can help me kill this damn cat once and for all.

    Sounds like your infested to tha max.

    Delete your temporary internet files - see link for how to :http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;260897

    Download AVG Free antivirus. Run complete test - change complete test setting to scan for all files. goto: http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/16/lng/us/tpl/v5

    download Hijackthis-> http://www.cybertechhelp.com/html/downloads/download.php/id/40

    then show us what it says :)

    The AVG is a free antivirus that i have found does a good job of detecting those trojans and diallers.

    Fiver22 is absolutely right. Don't run Hijack This unless you know exactly what you are doing, or have an expert's assistance in the Spyware Specific forum. It is the last step, either to confirm a successful removal, or to get rid of something that the usual spyware/virus removers can't touch. Read the expert's take on it http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=38752
