my computer is too slow

My computer takes a very long time to start up. And it's pretty new. I just purchased it in December 2004.

I don't do a lot on it. have not downloaded nything other than stuff from Major Geek. I have a firewall and a virus protections program, allthough, it needs updated. I also run adaware that I downloaded from major geeks as well.

In reading the furms, I'm goint to download some other protection tools.

Is it possilbe that I p[urchased a computer with a low "speed rate"? And can it be fixed?

You have a Personal Firewall and A/V. What brand & Version?

 

I wasn't going to post since you got 2 penguins helping you but just wanted to suggest, downloading this small, free standalone utility called StartupControlPanel to anlayze the startup entries and disable suspicious ones by clearing the box next to them, this would NOT delete the entry but disable it, later on should you find that it is something you prefer to start along with Windows you could simply check its box in the program window. UNcheck one entry at a time and reboot to see if any changes occur, if any of the entries you unchecked or deleted mysteriously re-appear then you might have some sort of a malware lurking deep in your system...

Generally you really do NOT need any programs to be in the startup except for anti-virus scanners and may be a cleaning utility, etc.
