    :) Hi Everyone,
I just found this site and I think it is awesome..Especially like the Donkey Kong game...Anyway, When I try to restart my computer or shut it down it does Nothing. It don't freeze because you can still do things like open explorer or start a program. It is like it is ignoring the request to shut down or restart. I have been searching the internet for a solution and came up with nothing. I hope someone can give me some help...Thanks a million in advance... ;)

When i comes to shutting down my XP pro operating system, my problem is somewhat similar! When i click start->turn of computer...->turn off (or ->restart) it does nothing...it doesn't freeze it just does nothing, however if i do this a second time, it shuts down or restarts. Why won't it shut down the 1st time?

    plz help.

Try pressing and holding the power button on the PC. After a few seconds, it should cut the power and do a hard reset. Just a thought, works whenever this has happened to me.

Now obviously holding in the power button is going to turn off the computer the hard way. Everybody having problems run spybot and ad-aware and then update your virus scanner and run that. Next thing open up the task manager and close any programs that you don't recognize. I know some spyware crap hides under names like addvsjkeo.exe or something that doesn't make sense like a bunch of scrambled characters.exe. Next run msconfig and uncheck the things from the startup tab that you don't want to start up or make no sense again like the scrambled letters. Try this and save it and restart. If these don't work go to windows update and actually update your operating system for once. They post fixes for problems like this.

Totally agree, however, she has admitted to not knowing a great deal about computers. If she goes and just starts ending processes, and doesn't know which are vital, she will end up crashing her machine anyway. It's easier for those of us who are comfortable to identify these things. This person is not a geek, simple things first. There are times when the rundll hangs up. This can cause a myriad of issues, not to mention if ccApp locks a process. A hard reset resets the start menu and brings the machine back to minimal processes.

I totally agree that she possibly has a virus or some spyware, and she should scan for them. Telling a person who doesn't know what they are doing to go into the config and boot files is not a safe practice.

This is sooo not meant to ruffle feathers, just I think we get carried away sometimes and forget the simple fixes to issues. And a person who is just learning computers should not be goofin around with system vital files.
