"my computer" wont recognise new HD

Ok so i have windows vista and i just inserted a new hd mainly just for media storage. problem is i dont think vista is recognising it. i dont know if the drive is formatted, nor do i know how to for vista or if that will even work. the drive DOES show up in the device manager, but not in the "my computer" folder.

my bios has sata-controller enabled and raid disabled (both were enabled, disabled, and enabled one at a time with no results) so i guess that the question would be, what do i need to do specifically to get windows to see this drive. is there a certain setting that i need to enable/disable, or do i maybe need to assign it a drive letter manually.

any input or possible solutions would be greatly appreciated.

Asus a32m2 sli-deluxe
amd socket 940 am2 3.0 ghz
3 gigs corsair ddr2 pc 6400 DIMM 800mhz
500GB seagate HD (main hd and working)
320 western digital (media storage and NOT working)
geforce 9600 gt
audigy x-fi xtreme gamer
cooltec 600watt ps

 

Does it show as unformatted/unallocated in DM? Then rht-clk on the drive and format it.

 

haha, its always the simplest solutions that i seem to blindly overlook, i even thought of that several times and didnt even check lmao.
