My computer won't start until....

I have a relativity new computer, Asus MB.
    (this story is soooo weird!)
When I go to turn on my machine, almost every AM, it will not start!
It is plugged into a NEW UPS. - (history - this is the 2nd UPS)
We thought that the 1st UPS had a short, so we replaced it.
Got the new unit, plugged the computer into the backup, and it started great ... for about 2 weeks or so.
Then all of a sudden, the computer wouldn't start again. :(
so... I unplug the computer from the UPS, reset the UPS, plugged the computer back in,
and I have power going to the computer again. This does NOT happen every day, and it is driving me CRAZY!
What on earth could possible be causing this weird problem?
I have done web searches, trying to find out any thing even remotely related to what is going on, but nothing! :(

    Any suggestions?
    BIG TIA!

lol, im sure the time of day shouldnt effect the way ur rig boots, unless u have a dodgy electricity company tryin to save on costs i guess,

have u tried resetting the bios? i found a while ago my rig randomly wouldnt start, so i unplugged the power, took out the system battery, reset everything and it seemed to fix it...

    just a small suggestion

actually, when u say "wont start" is there no power, like no LED's or fans going? or will it not boot?

    Wow! That was fast!
I do live in a place where if someone sneezes the power goes out! VERY sad!
The time of day doesn't matter, I just start my day in the AM.
IF I start it in the afternoon after sitting it will still behave the same.

As far as resetting the bios, I am not savy enough to do stuff like that.
The thing I am afraid of, is that when my machine was rebuilt, it was just about totally rebuilt.
I kept my cd rom, my audio card, and the old power supply :(
This system is TOTALLY different from the original, as this is now a sata (which I know less than zero about).

I also want to update some of the original drivers, and I am not even sure what I am looking for.
This system makes me feel like a computer dork instead of a geekette! I knew my old machine with my eyes closed :(

hmm, resetting bios is quite simple.

in any case, what is ur PSU? what the MAX wattage, i dont own a UPS but im assuming that it requires some power to charge that thing.

simple drivers to update would be graphics card drivers, motherboard drivers, sound card drivers.. thats about all really, but drivers shouldnt effect the boot process...

I have NO clue, and I can't open the case to look, as I am not ready to tell my other half that this is happening again! :(
Is there a way to find out without removing the case sides/back?

I would highly suspect that Power supply... if you can get in the case there should be a sticker on it with all sorts of numbers...look for a wattage. That failing if you have a digicam post a pic.

If that is not the problem you may want to check your wall outlet. I have an older house and after checking the outlets i found only 4 were grounded in the whole house. To check you'll need a volt meter and most power bars have a grounding light. If you system is underpowered from the wall i could cause errors. Its a long shot and i would consider the PSU first.

    UPS --

A few extracts from this link.

On the back on most UPS is a IEC, which is a standard mains connector that is protected by a fuse or circuit breaker, this should usually be connected to the load equipment.
    Batteries for UPS units of such a low power level are typically integrated into the body of the unit;

batteries are likely to be integrated into the design f the UPS box, some units however may be capable of connecting supplementary batteries this would be enclosed in an additional purpose-built battery box, this would then increase the overall back-up time of the batteries.

Depending on whether the load is critical or not, this system may often require SNMP or automatic shutdown.

I would agree that you probably get power surges, and the UPS is doing its job- protecting your computer.
I suggest that the circuit breaker cuts in when there is, or has been a power surge, and your UPS then has to be reset - thats how they work.

I think I am gonna have to tell my other 1/2 what is going on, as he has the volt meter.
The very weird thing is that with the old system, I NEVER EVER had this problem....ever!
Then after having this new system for a short while, this became an almost every day occurrence.
Well, I may be hiding tomorrow, but I will try and tell him what's going on...
    wish me luck :(
    ACK!

No need to hide, the UPS is doing its job, the power surges must happen while the Computer is off. if it happened while it was on then the UPS would keep it running long enough to shut down, so that you did not lose data - I believe they all have a warning light, which would come on , if it happens whilst computer is on.
If it had happened while you were using the computer, then it could possibly be related, but as it appears to happen when computer is off, I would say that your power supplier has , or, is having surge problems, and your new computer is o.k
