My computer won't turn off!

When ever I go to Start -> Turn off Computer my computer will just restart. If I hit the power button it will just restart.

What the heck can I do besides pull the power cord everytime I want to turn my computer off?

 

Also (if applicable to your version of Windows):
Go to CONTROL PANEL and double-click on Display.
When the 'Display Properties' window opens up click on ScreenSaver tab and then at the bottom you will see the 'Power..' button, click on the 'Power Options Properties' window will open up, on the 'Advanced' tab check the setting for "When I press the power button on my computer" > see if it displays 'Shut down' if not make it so and click on OK an then another OK to save and exit out of the windows.

Also AT cases and old mobos/BIOS are known to have this issue with newer Windows versions too...as Major Attitude mentioned, we need more info if these didn't help.

 

OK, The setting for when I push the power button was already set to Shut Down. I checked to make sure but I knew it was because thats how I shut it down when I'm in a rush.

when it says its safe to turn off your comp, hold down the power button until it shuts off
thats what my dad had to do with his old pc..
