Until yesterday, when I would open My Computer from the desktop icon in WinXP Home, I would be able to click on the C drive icon and then view the contents of the drive. Now, I get a blank page with the search assistant on the left of the page but no list of the drives. Any ideas how to correct this problem? Thanks

It happens when I click My Computer Icon. The page displays the drives but when I go to click the C drive letter, it will open a new page that is blank excpept for the Search on the left border.

What if you right click, explore?

The Cdrive will dislplay only when I click on Explore. Previously, clicking on C would automatically display the contents without clicking Explore.

Your last post probably has something to do with 'Folder Options'.

Open explorer/tools/folder options/view. Try something in there.

I usually try one.......see what it does.......change it back if it wasn't the right one.

That was one of the first things I tried when I noticed the problem. I played around with the options but nothing returned to the original method of viewing the drive contents.

Just found two things that might help. Backup your registry first.

    1/ For search showing up.

    Start Registry Editor (Regedit).
Locate and then click the Default value under the following keys in the registry

if this problem occurs with drives:
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive\shell

If this problem occurs with folders:
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell

Click Modify on the Edit menu.
Type none in the Value data box, and then click OK.
    Quit Registry Editor.

    2/ For folder view.

How to set the folders and make them stick
To make the folder settings stay, there are two methods,

    A) One is to delete the two registry entries (after backing them up).
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\BagMRU]
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\Bags]

    B) Another is to add the entry "BagMRU Size" and set it to a value greater than 400 that is the default
    Go to:-
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell
    and add a DWORD called
    BagMRU Size
and give it a value of
    000003e8
    Then go to :-
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam
    make a DWORD called
    BagMRU Size
and give it a value of
    000003e8

WOW I will give that a try tomorrow when I am not so tired. I appreciate the advice and will let you know if anything works to correct the problem.
