Good afternoon to all, here is my problem of the day :) .
I have a Sony monitor, CPD-200ES and when I switched it on everything is a delightful shade of pink! So I have switched to older and smaller monitor, but I was wondering if you know why it did this? Could it be a driver or if it is hardware related we'll just forget it, I am waiting to get a whole new system. Anyway, thanks in advance as always.

Ouch, this is tough because of the possibilities. Easiest thing to do is find a spare monitor and video card and swap them one at a time to find where the problem is.

If this isnt possible, its tougher. I would always be sure drivers are current, make sure the pins are not damaged on the monitor cable to the video card and remove, clean the gold connecters on the video card with an eraser and reseat it. Check monitor settings for any auto settings or just revert monitor settings to default colors, gamma, brightness, etc.

Otherwise, odds are its a hardware problem and the video card or monitor is dying.

I will check the cables and do as you suggested, I haven't changed anything else (like the video card for example) and the old monitor works fine, it's just little and old and can't handle much! (Sounds like me-lol, just kidding), (It came with our old long-ago-crashed win95 pc and is a no-name) Funny how sometimes the generic stuff stays working when the brand name quits! (Look at cars!!). I am wondering about the video card too, or even if I have the wrong drivers installed. Don't laugh - Rage Pro Turbo AGP 2X . If I do need a new video card, I will come here to ask for recommendations if that's ok. Thanks.

Okay, now this is funny, I just read your last post, my phone rang and my techie neighbour said "hey, do you want a monitor? I have a spare one that I've been trying to sell but no bites, would you like it?" Too funny! I am going to go and get it and if it works well I'll be all set. Will let you know. Thanks again for your help.

    Hi Maxwell,
It says my driver file is: Ati2drad.dll and the release version is: J5 30.1.B02. I tried to do a screenshot to put in the reply but all I succeeded in doing was putting this entire page in my reply! Anyway, monitor from neighbour was way older than my current one and very small so I will keep using this and trying to fix the Sony. I thought I saw something that said I had version 5 something, I'll go and look.

Found it, driver version 5.0.2195.501.3 , I think I downloaded a new file from ATI when I was switching over to this pc, had the original cd but I thought it was way out of date so got an update. Would have been over a year ago I think.

BUT, you can plug it in to see if its pink still and eliminate the monitor as the problem. You may be stuck using 256 colors or something , but it will serve its purpose.

Well, reading this from the star it sounds like one of the wires has snapped in the cable somewhere. Let me think, what goes together in RGB to make pink? Erm, the absence of green and blue? lol! that would be a B*tch if you had both pairs snapped.
If you can get your hands on another monitor, try it out. It definatley sounds like a moniotor problem to me.

Oh and if you can't try another monitor, can you try your monitor on another system? Perhaps get your neighbour over with their system? or take the monitor to someone else? That would determine whether it is the monitor or the graphics card that is the problem.

    Hi Goldfish,
Snapped inside? the cable, so should I try a different cable too? I probably have a spare. I'm pretty sure it's not my video card coz the monitor I am using now is fine. But then I'm no expert or I wouldn't need you lot - lol! I'll try all the new suggestions and let you know. Thanks :)

We had the same problem with an old gateway monitor we had for 6 years. It started to go pink and we would just knock it around and it would go back to normal. Eventually it started to black out and one day it just died. Gateway said it was the tube or something, and that it would cost more to fix then buying a new one. So we went out to circuit city and got a proview 17in, for $50 after rebates. It works fine and serves its purpose.

    Hi Over Cooked,
I like any opportunity to give any part of my pc or its appendages a bit of a beating, we had a tv like that years ago and when the signal went out my Dad would just take a piece of driftwood from off the top of the tv and tap all the valves and stuff in the back until it started working again :). So I will be happy to try your suggestion too. I don't mind buying a new monitor but this one is pretty new and big and I'm saving up for a whole new system. I really want to try and fix this first if I can.

Assuming that the problem diappears if you swap monitors...

It's likely that one of the color guns in the CRT has become misaligned. You can take it to a tech shop and they can crack open the monitor and readjust the gun, but that will be expensive.

Alternately, you can check your color settings. On monitors that I've seen recently, they tend to have RGB controls. Often, they have one setting listed "9300K" or somesuch. That seems to favor blue. Then there's usually a "6550K" that is more red. Check to see if you have individual color setting on the monitor.

well, I'm a little late to the party, but what da chicken says is correct. A few things can cause a monitor to go towards one gun. Sounds to me like you've lost the Blue gun, making your display heavily favor the red gun. Either the high voltage section is gone, there's a loose wire going into the analog board, or one of the pins is bent in the connector. What you've got is either a simple signal loss, which would have to be verified with a continuity check up the high voltage section, or something in the high voltage section is gone. Personally, my bet would be on one of the guns having a short. If you can pick up another monotir cheap then it's the best route. It'll cost $50 just to have a look and maybe $100 to repair it after parts costs.
